HOW TO WRITE A DOSSIER ENTRY ============================= Sign in (or make an account) at the top of submit.html, then type in the left pane using the format below — the right pane renders it live in the site's actual style. When it looks right, click "Submit for review". A mod (site owner) approves or rejects it from the review queue at admin.html; approved entries go live on the site immediately. To propose changes to an EXISTING company instead of a new one, go to that company's page and click "Suggest an edit" — it opens submit.html pre-filled with the current live text so you're editing it, not starting from scratch. 1. FRONT MATTER (required, goes at the very top) -------------------------------------------------- --- title: Company Name subtitle: One-line description of what they do tag: bad tagtext: Worth being skeptical of --- - tag must be one of: bad, neutral, good — controls the color of the badge and the Verdict section (red / yellow / green). - tagtext is the actual text shown in the badge, e.g. "Worth avoiding", "Mixed record", "Generally solid". 2. SECTIONS -------------------------------------------------- Everything after the front matter is split into sections by lines starting with "## ". Use whatever sections make sense — common ones: ## Overview ## Financials ## Controversies ## Legal & Legislative Scrutiny ## Recent Developments ## Verdict ## Sources Two section titles are special: - "## Verdict" gets the highlighted colored box matching your tag. - "## Sources" gets the citation-list styling. Everything else just renders as a normal boxed section. 3. TEXT FORMATTING (inside any section) -------------------------------------------------- **bold text** *italic text* `inline code` [link text](https://example.com) - a bullet - another bullet > a blockquote / pulled quote Plain lines become a paragraph. A blank line starts a new paragraph. 4. STATS (only really used in a Financials-type section) -------------------------------------------------- STAT: Label | Value e.g. STAT: Valuation | ~$500M STAT: Revenue | ~$80M/yr Each STAT line becomes one tile in a stat grid. Put all your STAT lines together (a normal paragraph can go before or after them, not between). 5. RULES FOR PUBLIC ENTRIES -------------------------------------------------- Every factual claim needs a real source, cited in the Sources section (and ideally inline near the claim too, like [this](url)). This is a public site — no unsourced claims, no fabricated numbers. If you can't find a source for something, leave it out or say it's unconfirmed.
